Dimapur, Nov. 20 (EMN): The Capacity Training Centre of North East Christian University (NECU) conducted a training programme from Nov.12 to the 16th. The training was supported by the State Council of Science, Technology and Environment, of Meghalaya.
A press release that was issued to the media on Tuesday informed that the event aimed to equip unemployed youths and members of self help groups (SHP) with the skills necessary for self employment and sustainability.
‘This training which was a hands-on kind had six trainers from Meghalaya and the trainees were engaged with an hour of theory and six hours of practical every day. The training was divided into two categories—low cost baking and green technologies,’ the press release stated.
The first three days of the training was said to have focused on baking cakes, cookies, doughnut and bread by using firewood-based low cost baking ovens. Likewise, ‘kiwi jam, gooseberry and chilly pickle, squash and juice’ were made by using agro-based portable food processing machinery.
‘The baking oven and multipurpose food processing machinery which was used in the training are all customised with low cost and are all portable. The final food product was sold on the third day of the workshop,’ the press release informed.
The last two days of the workshop focused on green technologies such as improved low-smoke emission, low cost water filter; solar incubation for low cost hatchery and stabilised mud blocks; and bamboo technology ‘which would be convenient for our everyday use,’ the updates stated.
