- DIMAPUR — With an
aim to improve quality education in Nagaland, the Nagaland Education Project –
The Lighthouse NECTAR conducted a workshop on Tuesday at the Administrative
Training Institute (ATI) in Kohima. The workshop was organised for knowledge
sharing and coordination among all sister departments under the department of
School Education and State Council of Educational Research and Training
(SCERT).
- In his welcome address, the principal director of School
Education, Shashank Pratap Singh, informed that the workshop was conducted to
improve education quality in Nagaland. He highlighted that ‘Strengthening
governance and capacity building’ component under NECTAR was possibly the
largest component in terms of stakeholder engagement across departments like
School Education, NBSE, SCERT and Samagra Shiksha.
- An update from project NECTAR stated that the component
encompasses capacity building of teachers, school leaders and education
managers, community strengthening in addressing governance and career
management within the department.

- Singh has urged stakeholders to actively engage, lead in
discussions and focus on sustaining reforms and best practices under
"Strengthening governance and capacity Building" initiative.
- Delivering the keynote address, the commissioner and
secretary of School Education and SCERT, Kevileno Angami, described the
workshop as a privilege for all participants to discuss issues central to
everyone’s heart. Highlighting that the meeting was long overdue, she
emphasised the common objective of all departments in fostering holistic school
development, nurturing children and providing quality education to prepare them
for a rapidly changing global landscape.
- Besides, the commissioner called upon the sister departments
to complement and supplement each other in the works and prevent duplication
and overlapping to achieve the common objective particularly on holistic
development of children and quality education.
- The workshop included an introduction to the NECTAR
initiatives, an overview of the strengthening governance and capacity building
component, group discussions on progress and sustainability, testimonials on
programmes like the school leadership development programme (SLDP) and the
school review and improvement programme (SRIP), review of career pathways,
revision of SMC/ SMDC guidelines and exam reforms among others.
- Report stated that officials from the department of School
Education (DSE), State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT),
Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE), Samagra Shiksha and NECTAR attended
the workshop.
