Dimapur, May 19: Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju exhorted the Assam Rifles to work with dedication, keeping in mind that they are the ‘sentinels’ of the Northeast people. The minister stated that Northeast is a strategic region and that the role played by Assam Rifles in ensuring security, peace, and development in the area is worth the appreciation.
“I want to give respect and honour to those parents who gave birth to (children who chose to) serve the country and I’m proud and honoured to be here among you as it is my duty to encourage you,” Rijiju said during his address.
He encouraged the Assam Rifles’ personnel to continue their ‘selfless contributions’ in various fields keeping in mind the virtue of discipline. According to him, the Northeast region was ‘a strategic area and of paramount importance’ to the country.
Kiren Rijiju was addressing the attestation parade conducted at the ARTC&S drill ground on May 19 in Sukhovi village in Dimapur. He inspected the parade in which 233 recruits, including 22 mahila (women) recruits were inducted into the force, and described it as ‘beautiful’ in his address.
Rijiju presented awards to the successful recruits for their outstanding performances during training. ‘Rfn’ Sameer Ojha was awarded the medal for the best all-round recruit. Medals were awarded in the fields of firing, drill, and physical training.
Later, the minister witnessed demonstration by the ‘mahila’ recruits in the centre’s insurgency training area where the recruits displayed their weapon-handling skill, battle obstacles, bayonets fighting, raid on underground hideouts, and ambush by the underground outfits and counter-ambush against the outfits. Rijiju opined that training of ‘mahila’ recruits would result in augmenting the paramilitary force.
He encouraged the Assam Rifle’s personnel to live up to its tag of ‘sentinels of the Northeast’.
