Kohima, May 29 (EMN): A four-day youth festival of the North East National Service Scheme (NSS) held on the theme ‘Learning together’ concluded on Monday at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima. The youth festival was organised by the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, NSS Cell, Nagaland, in collaboration with Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.
Anenla S Lonchari, Secretary of Youth Resources & Sports, speaking as the chief guest stressed on the unity among the eight north eastern states. She said the youth festival at Kohima embraced a mixture of participants from different states, which in turn provided a platform for the other states in sharing and observing their values, cultures, traditional songs, and dances.
She pointed out that the people of northeast should follow the good example where cleanliness is maintained as the first priority in lives. Observing that Mizoram and Sikkim were the cleanest states in the northeast, she urged the respective state volunteers to take an example from those two states.
She also encouraged the participants to share with the fellow people back at home of what they have learned during the festival.
In the quiz competition, Arunachal Pradesh secured the first position, while Nagaland and Sikkim secured the second and third positions respectively.
In extempore speech, Mizoram secured the first position, while Nagaland and Meghalaya secured the second and third positions respectively.
In the debate competition, Manipur secured the first position, while Nagaland and Assam secured the second and third positions respectively.
The four-day festival saw hundreds of NSS volunteers from across the north eastern states taking part the festival. The festival also witnessed various activities such cultural exchange programme, seminars, yoga, tree plantation, sightseeing.
C Theyo, State NSS Officer, said this is third NSS festival that the ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India, has supported to all the north eastern states. The students got together and exchange their traditional songs, dance, lifestyle etc.
He further informed that the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports has given the opportunity to the northeast NSS youth organisation to organise such festivals in Manipur and Sikkim again this year.
