Dimapur, Nov. 19 (EMN): The minority wing of the Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) for Dimapur has resolved to strengthen the unit even as it has appealed to the party’s high command to give the minority unit more powers.
A press release from the NDPP on Monday informed about a meeting the members had recently.
Members of the NDPP’s minority committee for Dimapur region, assembly constituency units and leaders and student leaders of the minority communities was held on November 18, at Walford in Dimapur.
The president of the Minority Committee, Mohindra Thousen, said during the meeting that a representation has been submitted to the NDPP’s President Chingwang Konyak. The representation requested the party’s chief to elevate the committee into full-fledged minority committee at the central level, and with powers to induct/accommodate more leaders and members in the party, the press release stated.
Senior minority leader Dipak Yholmow, was also stated to have emphasized on ‘proper functioning of the party according to the constitution of the NDPP.’ He said that the party’s rank and file, from the minority committees in the assembly constituencies to the central team, ‘must abide by the constitution and principles of the party and keeping in mind the party’s motto ‘deeds not words.’
Also, Yholmow said that the minority communities of Nagaland must be grateful to Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and Konyak for accommodating the minority communities, giving them a place in the organisation. He appealed to the students’ community to come forward in nation building and enrol with the party and actively work in the interest of the NDPP for a bright future, the press release stated.
The house reaffirmed to support the leadership of Rio and Konyak, besides resolving to revamp, restructure and strengthen the minority committee in other districts of the state.
