Dimapur, May 30 (EMN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has lauded the people of Nagaland and the electorate for 'positively participating' in the recent by-election to the Lok Sabha. The NDPP issued a note on Wednesday stating that the "high polling percentage is a clear indication that the people have faith in democracy and the state continues to contribute towards the strengthening of the country’s democratic principles."
Irrespective of the outcome of the elections, the note stated, the NDPP appreciates all sections of the people for the 'peaceful elections which was mostly incident-free and people could come out and participate in the election process under an environment of peace and tranquillity.'
Also, the party declared that it had 'carried out a responsible, mature and vision oriented campaign.' "It was unfortunate that our adversaries focused more on a divisive agenda on communal and religious lines which was never before witnessed in Nagaland. However, the PDA (People's Democratic Alliance) refused to get drawn into any paper war and remained focused on our agenda of bringing all sections together in order to implement a new and progressive development plan for Nagaland," the note added.
The NDPP has thanked the Election Commission, and Nagaland's Election department, and the church organisations and Civil Society, and the party's coalition partners for their support and solidarity.
"The show of cohesiveness and understanding within the alliance will motivate all of us to rededicate ourselves towards serving the people. The party once again appeals to all sections to extend cooperation and partner with the government to collectively work towards achieving our common goals as one family," the message added.
