The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) and Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) have lauded the “unconditional commitment” declared by the NSCN (IM) and the Working Committee, Naga National Political Groups (WC-NNPG) on January 14, to collaborate on the basis of their respective agreements (Framework Agreement and Agreed Position).
The NDPP in a press communiqué stated that the party welcomes the joint declaration -- Nagas are moving ahead -- signed by NSCN (IM) Chairman, Q Tuccu, and Convenor of WC-NNPG, N Kitovi Zhimomi.
“It is indeed a welcome development that will strengthen unity and understanding within the Naga family and is a significant step in response to the desire of the Naga people for oneness and genuine peace,” read the press communiqué.
While lauding the wisdom, understanding and contributions of the leaders of all parties involved in making the joint statement a reality, NNDP also acknowledged the “noble services” rendered by the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) in the collective quest for lasting peace and progress.
“The NDPP once again appeals to all sections to continue to uphold the negotiating parties in prayers and we reiterate our solidarity to the peace process so that a final solution to the vexed Naga political imbroglio is reached at the earliest,” it said.
In a separate press release, the NSF said the “unconditional commitment” has paved the way for the formation of 'Council of Naga Relationships and Cooperation' “to explore, at the earliest, realistic ways for Nagas to move forward on the basis of Naga historical and political rights”.
It said the development comes as a booster for the Naga public to shed differences and ceaselessly work towards ensuring that lasting peace is brought about in Naga homeland, through the healing of spirits.
The NSF, however, expressed dismay over the alleged delay tactics adopted by the Government of India, to hammer out differences with the Naga negotiators, pertaining to the key core issues of the Naga national Flag and Constitution.
“The federation would like to reiterate our earlier stand that we would never accept a 'forced solution' and that the impending negotiated solution should ensure that the dignity and rights of every single Naga soul is respected and upheld,” it stated.
The NSF demanded the GoI to exhibit utmost sincerity and commitment in the negotiation process to ensure that the aspiration of the Naga people for an inclusive, honorable and acceptable solution to the protracted Indo-Naga political issue is brought about without any further delay.
It also appealed to everyone to be mindful of individuals publicly indulging in rhetoric, either in words or actions, pertaining to the Indo-Naga political issue.
“We have to zealously guard our cause which is legitimate, just, fair and righteous from the lure of these individuals, tirelessly scheming with our adversaries, to undermine it,” it added.
