Dimapur, Jan. 23 (EMN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) on Tue. informed that the party was engaged in pre-poll alliance talk with the national president of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Amit Shah.
“The NDPP has authorised the party’s leader, Mr. Neiphiu Rio, to discuss with likeminded parties and work out modalities for a pre-poll alliance ahead of the general election to the Nagaland Legislative Assembly. Towards this end Mr. Rio, is in discussion with national leaders having met Mr. Amit Shah, BJP national president in New Delhi today,” read a statement issued by the party on Tue. “While we desire solution of the Indo-Naga political imbroglio, if conduct of election is imposed, the NDPP is fully prepared to face the forthcoming election on its own, however, it is open to alliances in the interest of the people, especially in supporting the peace process and bringing an honourable solution that is acceptable to the people.
“The NDPP leadership and all its rank and file assures the people that any strategic decision that is decided will be in the greater interest of the Naga people and the party assures all section that the NDPP will protect the interest and aspiration of the people as enshrined in the NDPP constitution,” it stated.
