The distribution ceremony was held at Town Hall in Dimapur, on Aug. 24. The motorcycles were provided to the two departments to augment them carry out their duties for the welfare of the society.
Speaking at the event, president of NDPP Dimapur region, Kughato S Aye, related the party’s responsibility towards transforming the society. “It is our commitment as a party to our people,” Aye stated.
Aye said the motorcycles were distributed to the two departments for easy movements in their line of duties during emergency. He urged the people to use power judiciously and also abide by the traffic regulations.
The president mentioned that it was the second project that the party had undertaken. In the earlier instance, the party had distributed umbrellas to primary schools and also planted trees.
Responding to the common complain that the party should repair roads, schools, and hospitals among other things, Aye maintained that those works were to be undertaken by the state government. He added that their duty as a party was to contribute through social work for the benefit of the society.
The deputy speaker of the Nagaland Legislative Assembly, Zhaleo Rio, during his address noted that the distribution of motorcycles to the two departments was a small thing. He, however, stated that it would largely benefit the society in terms of their utilities and services. He expressed hope that the good works would continue in the days to come.
Motor transport officer, William Kath, who attended the event on behalf of the Dimapur traffic police, conveyed gratitude to the NDPP for looking after the welfare of their department and the public. Mentioning that the traffic personnel have to attend many programmes which make the use of motorcycles necessary, he said that the motorcycle would make their job more convenient.
“We have only 10 motorcycles in Dimapur: five motorcycles for Zone 1 and five for Zone 2 which were not enough. This motorcycle from the NDPP will make our job more convenient to serve the public,” the transport officer stated. Kath further mentioned about the two highway patrol vehicles, the Maruti Gypsies that were handed over to the district enforcement unit on August 15 during the commemoration of the 72nd Independence Day in Dimapur. He thanked the government stating that it will be used for public convenience.
SDO-III Dimapur Electrical division, Akito Murru, attended the programme representing the Power department. Murru said, “Our department, with the very limited resources at our disposal, we have to give our best many times. Our goal is service to the people. Not many had supported us, we are thankful that NDPP lent us a helping hand.”
Mentioning that the department has to be on guard at all times as the transformers get burnt every now and then, Murru said that with the resource given by the NDPP it would save them time. He also assured to continue giving better service to the people. He further urged the public to use only LED bulbs for power efficiency. “Please use only LED bulbs, stop using incandescent bulbs,” he requested.
Meanwhile, the Dimapur police, in a press release issued by the additional deputy commissioner of Police and PRO, has expressed gratitude to the NDPP party for donating one motorcycle to the unit.
