Dimapur, July 5 (EMN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) has rubbished the claims of the Naga People’s Front (NPF) and the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) published in some local dailies.
The NDPP, in a press release issued by its media and communication committee, stated the NPF's allegation that the state government had publicly humiliated the governor was absolutely ‘ridiculous’ and an attempt to mar the cordial relationship between the two. Contrary to the allegation, it claimed that PDA government holds the governor and his august office in high esteem and sincerely respects his suggestions and contributions in several fronts.
Stating that the Indo-Naga political issue has been at the core of Naga society for decades, NDPP affirmed that the search for peace and honourable political settlement has been its utmost priority. It advised the NPF party, which claimed to be the oldest regional party, to realise that merely being an old party does not merit it any right or ownership as it has completely failed in reflecting the voice of the people.
“The statement of the state government was not about rhetoric or confrontation in any manner and all ranks and file of the party stands by the statement issued by the state government. It was a mature and straightforward statement that was based on facts and accurate data, unlike the rhetoric of the NPF and the NPCC,” the NDPP clarified.
On the law and order situation, it stated that various arms of the government, both state and central agencies, are carrying out their responsibilities and duties in an appreciable manner.
“The NDPP’s plank was always to restore the system of mis-governance and instil an era of transparency based on meritocracy while combating the challenges of favouritism and nepotism. The state government has already approved the institution of the Staff Selection Board (SSB) to ensure meritorious recruitment system in the government services,” the statement read. It expressed confidence that the decision would pave the way for creating hope and motivation in the minds of all the youth.
Stating that it has high respect for the governor, who also holds a constitutional post and interlocutor of the Indo-Naga political peace negotiation, NDPP hoped that he is genuinely committed towards bringing a political solution that is honourable, acceptable and upholds the political rights of the Naga people.
It also expressed confidence that a person of his stature with an exemplary record was a blessing for the people towards achieving peace and progress.
Meanwhile, NDPP has out-rightly rejected the demand of the NPF secretary general for the PDA government to step down which was relayed during discussion on television. It further affirmed that NDPP stands for early, honourable and acceptable political solution and assured the negotiating parties of its full-fledged support and co-operation towards this end.
