Dimapur, Nov. 3 (EMN): The Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) today accused the Naga People’s Front (NPF) party of not allowing genuine voters to enter the perimeter of Jakhama town-I polling station 12 to cast their votes.
In a complaint to the deputy commissioner and district election officer, Kohima, NDPP claimed that the NPF functionaries forcibly stopped hundreds of electorates at the national highway and restricted them to cast their vote. It also alleged that voters were threatened and intimidated.
An NDPP statement issued by its general secretary, Benjamin Lorin, stated that on receiving the information, senior party leaders and elected representatives of the NDPP arrived at the said location to assess the situation and met with the designated magistrates in charge. It added that the supporters and workers of the NPF party forcibly evicted the NDPP leaders and hurled verbal abuses at them even though the leaders were well outside the perimeter of the polling station.
“While our leaders had not done anything to incite or create a situation, the NPF supporters had illegally made video recordings which have been made to go viral and at the same time verbally abused and evicted the leaders,” the statement alleged.
It, therefore, stated that such malafide actions against respected leaders and elected members of the assembly are punishable offences especially the illegal videography.
Alleging that normal electioneering process was not allowed to proceed, the NDPP has demanded the concerned officer to declare re-poll at the particular polling station. It further demanded to book the persons who illegally video recorded under relevant cyber laws and initiate necessary actions.
