Dimapur, June 9 (EMN): A team from National Commission for Women led by Chairperson Rekha Sharma, along with the Nagaland State Commission for Women Chairperson Dr. Temsula Ao and members called on the governor of Nagaland PB Acharya on June 9.
An update received here on Saturday from the NCW informed that
During the meeting, Sharma discussed the political rights and empowerment of women of Nagaland. She also shared her ideas on how local body elections can be more gender inclusion so as to enable more women in Nagaland to contest in elections as per the Constitution of India.
The governor suggested novel ideas to empower the women of Nagaland with the representatives of the Nagaland State Commission for Women, and extended his support to the State Commission.
The duo also said to have deliberated on various central government schemes for women and its implementation in the state.
Sharma informed that the NCW plans to hold a meeting in the coming months with the North East State Commissions for Women in Nagaland. For this she said guidance of the governor will be sought by the commissions and new programmes will be developed to empower women of the Northeast states.
