Dimapur, October 10 : The Phek division of Nagaland Contractors & Suppliers Union (NCSU) has extended support to the NCSU head office’s stand opposing the 4-lane Dimapur-Kohima road construction by Maytas & Gayatri (JV). The NCSU division also sought to make its stand clear to the Naga public on the matter.
Stating that the issue is not new and it had been brought in the media more than often, NCSU Phek division president Kuzhosheyi Alex and secretary Razou Lohe, in a release, today questioned Commissioner & Secretary, Works & Housing, I Himato’s stand then.
Being silent for the “whole time” and suddenly taking a u-turn in the same issue is really “unfortunate” and “mischievous”, the release stated.
Maintaining that the allegations levelled against the company have been authenticated and based on a fact finding commission, the NCSU Phek division, therefore, wanted to make it known that the allegations are not at all unfounded as stated by the Commissioner & Secretary, Works & Housing.
Also, stating that the public know well that the SARDP works undertaken by the company were abruptly abandoned citing “silly reasons” so as to “dupe” the Nagas, it said the SARDP works (Phase-1) were awarded to Maytas & Gayatri (JV) and it is their bounden duty to complete the project as per the agreed terms and specifications.
“We Nagas as a whole cannot let this Mega-Project slip out of our hands and we will continue to pressurize the company into finishing the SARDP work project before taking up any other projects like the 4-lane Dimapur-Kohima Road construction,” it said. The NCSU unit also cautioned that Maytas & Gayatri (JV) will be held responsible for any unwanted consequences arising out of it.
The Government of Nagaland on October 7 appealed to NCSU to “refrain” from throwing “unfounded charges” at the two construction firms of Maytas and Gayatri in connection with the SARDP-Phase 1 roads project.
The appeal was contained in a press release issued by Commissioner and Secretary of Works and Housing I Himato Zhimomi on Friday. It has also appealed the contractors to “desist from making indirect intimidations to the company”.
According to Zhimomi, Maytas-Gayatri (JV) did not abandon the two lane projects after carrying out formation cutting under SARDP — Phase 1, as alleged by the local contractors. “The JV had to suspend the works as the revised estimates were not approved by the MoRTH.”
