Dimapur, December 14
Following the appeals from State government and various civil societies, Nagaland Contractors’ and Suppliers’ Union NCSU today kept in abeyance the proposed National Highway-29 bandh till further notice.
Overwhelmed by supports from different Naga civil societies led by Naga Hoho, Naga Mothers’ Association, Nagaland Tribes Council, students organisations, Governor P B Acharya, Chief Minister T R Zeliang, Lok Sabha MP Neiphiu Rio and Minister for National Highways, Nuklutoshi and political parties, the NCSU kept in abeyance the bandh scheduled for December 15, considering the festive season and ongoing academic examinations.
NCSU President Pele Khezhie and General Secretary John Kath in a statement lauded the concerns expressed through their letters reminding the Union Ministry of Roads, Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari to uphold his assurances to break the proposed project for 4 Laning of Dimapur-Kohima Road into smaller packages so as the local contractors can also avail the opportunity to take up the national project.
The NCSU also clarified that atleast one of the three-phased works for 4 Laning of Dimapur-Kohima road should be divided into smaller projects so that the local contractors will also be able to bid for the tender, saying NCSU does not accept the notice inviting tender floated by NHIDCL.
The contractors hoped that the Union MoRTH will listen to its requests supported by the Government of Nagaland, Naga civil societies and general public in the interest of the state in general.
The NCSU conveyed gratitude to all those who came forward, including the NCSU members to support the genuine demand of the local contractors while also aspiring to have similar support in the near future.
