Dimapur, Sep. 22 (EMN): State unit of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has decided to fight the ensuing State general elections on the plank of ushering infrastructural development, empowerment of women, employment opportunity for the youth and controlling price of essential commodities.
This was disclosed by Narendra Verma, NCP national secretary and spokesman and in-charge of Northeast India, in a press conference held at Hotel Acacia this evening after the State executive council consultative meeting.
Alleging that the present State government has total failed on all fronts, Verma said the party is set to undertake door to door campaign to enlighten the public of the party’s manifesto which aims for all round development.
NCP, which is an alliance of the NPF led DAN government, minced no words in denouncing the sordid affairs of the State as reflected in the worsening condition of the roads. Verma, who had travelled across all the states in the country, remarked that he had never seen such bad roads.
Reasoning that 15 years is not a short period, in which NPF led DAN government has been running the affairs of the State, Verma was sceptical about the credibility of the present government.
On this front, he said NCP will take the message from door to door on the failure of the government, adding the public should not succumbed to such mis-governance but rise to the occasion in demanding for their rights. He reiterated that NCP will work in the interest of the local public.
Replying to query on the ongoing Indo-Naga political issue, Verma was of the opinion that all Naga factions should be taken onboard in order to bring about an inclusive settlement acceptable to all concerned.
Commenting on the complexity of the Indo-Naga political issues, Verma voiced that the problem cannot be solved overnight. While favouring settlement of the vexed Indo-Naga political issue, Verma remarked that every Naga has the right to know content of the framework agreement.
Also stating that NCP is against buying of vote during electioneering, Verma desired that Naga should rise to the occasion in denouncing such practices, adding the younger generation today wants good governance and development.
Today’s consultative meeting was attended by representatives from various districts.
Verma was confident that the party under the leadership of its State convenor Vanthungo Odyuo will do well in the ensuing State general elections. Observing the past performances of the party, he also disclosed that the party will field maximum candidates. He was confident that the party will do well in the ensuing election too.
