DIMAPUR — The
Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) conducted a spot verification of the ongoing road
over bridge (ROB) project in Dimapur and consulted with the concerned engineers
and contractor.
“This has been necessitated due to mounting pressure from
the general public for its early completion due to the worsening of the traffic
snare during this festive season,” it said in a press release.
It was further stated that, after thorough deliberation, a
pragmatic conclusion was reached that maintaining the quality of work and
adhering to the standard benchmark for the curing period will extend beyond the
end of this year.
It stated that the commissioner of police has been doing an
excellent job in managing the smooth flow of traffic.Meanwhile, the NCD offered
suggestions to alleviate the traffic bottleneck at the lone railway flyover.
Stating that the implementation of the odd-even system for
registered vehicles on alternate days is a commendable initiative by the
Dimapur Traffic Police, the NCD expressed a firm view that public buses, both
for day and night services, should commence operations immediately from the
ISBT, particularly those using the Super Market bus station.
It stated that this measure would not only alleviate the
already heavy traffic congestion but also ensure that government infrastructure
built specifically for such designated purposes is fully utilised.
The NCD also urged the Dimapur Urban Development Department
to carry out all road maintenance work in and around Dimapur city before the
end of the festive season.
