DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Community Conserved Area Forum (NCCAF) on June 21 inaugurated its head office, adjacent to Inter-State Bus Terminal (ISBT) at Purana Bazaar, East Dimapur.
NCCAF is an apex membership-based body representing community conserved areas (CCA) in the state of Nagaland, where communities are conserving forest and biodiversity in community owned lands, stated an update from NCCAF.
It stated that Neema Pathak Broome, South-Asia coordinator for Indigenous Community Conserved Areas (ICCA) Consortium, inaugurated the office. She informed that the support for establishment of NCCAF office from the ICCA Consortium came as part of the consortium vision and mandate of supporting the global movement and its members for indigenous and local community collective territories of life, of which NCCAF is also a member.
She emphasised that Nagaland stands at a critical juncture of initiating exemplary leadership of supporting, sustaining and documenting the territories of life such as conservation of forest, biodiversity and water bodies.
The NCCAF secretary, Seve Vadeo, chaired the inauguration programme, while the welcome address was delivered by its chairman, Heirang Lungalang, and the advisor, Dr. Y Nuklu Phom, said the dedicatory prayer.
Report stated that the vision of the office was to become a centre of excellence to extend the cause of community biodiversity conservation, a space where research and documentation of CCA, facilitation for support and policy advocacy of CCA in Nagaland as well as training and capacity building of its members could be fostered.
