- DIMAPUR — A
ten-day Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC) for NCC cadets from Nagaland got
underway at the Assam Rifles camp in Wokha on January 9. The camp is being
conducted under the aegis of Kohima Group NCC.
- An update from NCC stated that the cadets would undergo
rigorous training like PT, drill, field craft etc during the camp. They would
also undergo weapon training followed by live firing for all cadets.
- A total of nearly 400 NCC cadets (both boys and girls) and
NCC staff are participating in the camp. Col. Lovelesh Panghal, CO of 1 Nagaland Bn NCC, is the camp
commandant and Lt. Col. Prachetan
Gahatraj, CO of 24 Nagaland Bn NCC, is the deputy commandant.
- Speaking to the cadets on the opening day, the camp
commandant and deputy commandant briefed the cadets on the various facets of
leadership, character development, regimental life and life skills that would
be imparted during the camp.
- It stated that various state departments would also impart
training and conduct lectures for the cadets on disaster relief, higher
education, start-ups, various government employment generation schemes and fire
fighting. Besides, the cadets would also get a unique opportunity for getting a
hands-on exposure to various games like kite flying and tug-of-war.
- It mentioned that for most students, the NCC camp is their
first exposure to community living and training in a quasi military setting. It
would be an excellent opportunity for them to grasp the essentials of NCC
training and live a life with unity and discipline, which is the motto of NCC.
