NBSE question papers leaked; Class IX final examination postponed

EMN Dimapur, November 22 Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has postponed the Class IX final examination- 2015 following a leakage of the questions by the son of the Headmaster of Mount Hermon School, Purana Bazar, Dimapur on November 19 from their residence. The emergency meeting of the governing body of the Board on November 21 has decided to postpone the Class IX final examination and rescheduled from 28th November 2015 to 14th December 2015. As an immediate penal action, the Board has cancelled the examination centre of Mount Hermon School, Purana Bazar, Dimapur. Further, course of action will be initiated as per rules. NBSE Chairman Asano Sekhose in a statement said, “On November 19, the Headmaster, S.K. Sejoy Lamkang of Mount Hermon School, Purana Bazar, Dimapur collected the confidential packets from the Board’s Office. On reaching Dimapur, instead of keeping the packets in the school under safe custody, it was kept it in his residence. On the morning of November 20, his son, who is studying in Class IX at Mount Hermon School had stolen the packets and opened it and took out the question papers of English, Alternative English, Social Sciences, Science, Mathematics and Environmental Education, thereby, causing the leakage of the questions. The Headmaster reported the matter to the Board on November 20 in the afternoon. In this regard, an FIR was registered with the East Police Station, Dimapur.” The Board will now issue new question papers for the subjects -English, Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, Environmental Education and Alternative English. For the remaining subjects, schools will use the question papers already issued by the Board. The new question papers will be delivered in the district headquarters on 3rd and 4th December by the Board officials. Schools under Kohima district will collect it from the Board’s office. The Class IX Final Examination is conducted by the NBSE with a common question paper to maintain uniform standard throughout the State. The examination is conducted by the registered schools. The evaluation and results are prepared as per the criteria given by the Board.   NSF dismayed on question paper theft The Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) has expressed dismay over the news on the theft of question papers for Class IX final examination 2015 from Mount Hermon School, Purana Bazaar, Dimapur on November 20. The federation, in a release today asked the concerned authority to conduct a thorough investigation as to how and why it happened. It asserted that the person(s) responsible must be punished severely so that such unwanted incident does not happen again in the examination system of the state. The NSF also thanked to the Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) for timely response to the situation and for taking corrective measures. While appreciating the board, NSF expressed concern that question paper leakage problem has been happening time and again, and appealed to the concerned authority to find a mechanism to “tackle this kind of problem with utmost seriousness for once and for all”. The federation while calling upon all the students to discharge their duty responsibly, also requested the general public to give a good ambience to the students so that they are able to study without any disturbances.
