NBSE directs all Nagaland schools to constitute Internal Complaints Committees under the POSH Act and submit compliance reports by July 15.
KOHIMA — The Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has directed all government and private schools under its jurisdiction to immediately constitute and operationalise Internal Complaints Committees (ICCs) in compliance with the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 (POSH Act).
The directive, issued by NBSE Chairperson Rangumbuing Nsarangbe on Friday, follows a July 6 communication from the Directorate of School Education after the Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) observed the need for strict compliance with the provisions of the POSH Act in educational institutions.
The board stated that the move is aimed at ensuring a safe, secure and gender-sensitive environment for students, teaching staff and non-teaching personnel.
Schools have been instructed to constitute ICCs in accordance with Section 4 of the POSH Act, display information on the committees and complaint mechanism at prominent locations on campus, conduct regular awareness and sensitisation programmes on the prevention of sexual harassment, and submit compliance reports detailing the constitution and composition of the committees to the NSCW.
The NBSE has asked all schools to submit an action taken report, along with the status of their ICCs, to poshnagaboard@gmail.com by July 15 for onward submission to the government.
