Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE 18 competition
Dimapur, June 25 (EMN): Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has informed that entries for Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE 18 competition under the initiative of the National Innovation Foundation (NIF) under the department of science and technology, Government of India, would be accepted till August 31.
NIF has successfully undertaken the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE competition in collaboration with the Honey Bee Network, CBSE, national/ state education boards and other partners with the aim to harness the creative potential of school children.
In 2017, it received 65000 responses from all states and union territories of the country, wherein 56 students’ ideas were selected for awards after rigorous screening. The award function was organised at the Grambharati, Gandhinagar in Gujarat where the former President of India, Pranab Mukherjee, gave away the awards in presence of OP Kohli, governor of Gujarat, and other dignitaries.
A DIPR report stated that NBSE has decided to partner with NIF so that students of the state could also participate in the Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE 18 competition.
Students could directly submit their entries address to Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam IGNITE 18 Competition, National Innovation Foundation – India, Grambharti, Amrapur, Gandhinagar - Mahudi Road, Gandhinagar, Gujarat – 382650 or email at ignite@nifindia.org.
Entries may be submitted in the following categories:
- Technological practical ideas to solve any problem in day to day life.
- Real life technological projects demonstrating innovative ways of solving problems or reducing drudgery or generating efficiency or conserving resources (projects demonstrating application of known scientific concepts or theories will not be accepted).
- Traditional knowledge practices documented from elders in and around one's family.
(iv) Information about some other innovators in the neighbourhood.
It informed that each entry (in case of i and ii above) should be accompanied with a certificate from parents and teachers stating that the idea/ innovation has been developed and documented by the student concerned entirely on his/ her own without any guidance or support from them.
The awards will be announced on October 15, birthday anniversary of the former President of India, Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam, which is also celebrated as children's creativity and innovation day.
Winners of the earlier IGNITE competitions have also won awards in NIF's national competition at the hands of the President of India. Many student winners have participated in the innovation exhibitions organised by NIF at the Rashtrapati Bhavan and inaugurated by the President. IGNITE winners have also been selected in the innovation scholar-in-residence programme of the Rashtrapati Bhavan in the last three years.
It stated that IGNITE awards winners would be eligible to get 10 bonus marks while applying for admission in B.Tech programme at Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (IIITD), an autonomous institute of the Government of Delhi. The bonus marks are in addition to the 100 marks an applicant gets based on the JEE (Mains) and Class XII marks.
NBSE has encouraged the students to participate in the competition with their creative ideas or innovations.
