DIMAPUR — Nagaland Board of School Education (NBSE) has notified all the head of registered institutions that the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) will organise a special programme for school children called ‘Young Scientist Programme’ or ‘Yuva Vigyani Karyakram’ (YUVIKA- 2023).
The programme is aimed at creating awareness about the emerging trends in science and technology among the youngsters; to impart basic knowledge on space technology, space science and space applications with a preference to rural areas; and to encourage more students to pursue in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) based research/ career.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]It informed that the residential programme would be of two weeks duration during summer holidays (May 15-26, 2023), and the schedule would include invited talks, experience sharing by eminent scientists, experimental demonstration, facility and lab visits, exclusive session for discussions with experts, practical and feedback sessions.
The programme aims to select 350 students studying in class 9 as on January 1, 2023, within the territory of India.
It informed that the selection of participant would be made on the basis of marks obtained in class ‘8’ examination, participation in science fair (school/ district/ state and above level organised by school/ district/ state/ central government authority) in last three years, rank in Olympiad/ Science competitions and equivalent (1 to 3 rank in last three years at school/ district/ state and above level) in last three years, winner of sports competitions conducted by school/ government/ institutions/ registered sports federation (1 to 3 rank in last three years at school/ district/ state and above level) in last three years, membership of Scouts and Guides/ NCC/ NSS in last three years, and performance in online quiz.
It stated special weightage to students studying in school located in panchayat area would be provided.
The programme is planned at seven centres of ISRO namely Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC), Thiruvananthapuram; UR Rao Satelite Centre (URSC), Bengaluru; Space Application Centre (SAC), Ahmedabad; National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC), Hyderabad; Satish Dhawan Space Centre, Sriharikota; North-East Space Applications Centre (NE-SAC), Shillong; and Indian Institute of Remote Sensing (IIRS), Dehradun.
It stated that expenditure towards the travel of student (II-AC fare by train from nearest railway station to the reporting centre and back), course material, lodging etc. during the entire course would be borne by ISRO. In case the student has not avail the IIAC train, the reimbursement of fare would be limited to II-AC train fare.
