Dimapur, September 30 : In the backdrop of poor road conditions making life miserable in Nagaland and the problem reaching its zenith, the NBCC Youth department has made a humble appeal to Chief Minister TR Zeliang for his timely intervention and prompt action “on priority basis” on the matter.
In an appeal to the CM today, NBCCYD president K Hekato Awomi and NBCC Youth secretary brought to his notice the “deep-felt anguish” of Baptist Youth of Nagaland over the state of affairs with special reference to the deplorable conditions of roads in Nagaland.
The Baptist Youth opined that the government must adopt a holistic approach that underscores the need for a road system that guarantees maintenance, safety, livability and a sense of community if all round development must happen. “Today, there is lack of equilibrium between the vehicles we drive and the road conditions we travel,” they pointed out.
They further stated that with monsoon coming to an end the whole State is left with potholes with yawning gaps, mud and water stagnation on the roads making it tough for common motorists to drive.
Noting that the citizens are vexed with bumpy rides on such roads, the Baptist Youth said apart from bad roads, it is the delay in re-carpeting those portions of roads dug up for laying pipelines and cables by different government departments and private agencies adding to the problem.
They made the humble plea to the CM for his immediate attention on the matter considering that the problem has reached its zenith and is, consequently, creating great hardship 'among citizens. They said his intervention and prompt action on the matter on priority basis will be highly appreciated.
They also informed that the Baptist Youth of Nagaland, representing 22 associations from all the districts of Nagaland, under the aegis of the NBCC Youth department had convened its 32nd annual session at Ahthibung recently. During the session, the youth expressed their solidarity with the government as it manages and plans for the future of the State in the context of globalisation and increased international cooperation.
“We also empathize with the government that in spite of resourcefulness, in terms of natural and human resources, the State remains underdeveloped,” they stated.
