NBCC observes youth week; churches urged to use new media tools for evangelism

Dimapur, July 6 (EMN): The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) observed youth week and youth Sunday with the theme “Stronger Together” from July 1 to the 5th.

Due to the pandemic, the youth week was observed in a differently this year by conducted essay writing competition on the topic: “God in a pandemic,” stated an update received here on Monday.

In his message on Youth Sunday at Khedi Baptist Church in Kohima, the speaker, Rev. Vikuo Rhi, youth secretary of NBCC urged the youth ministry to be Christ-centered focusing on soul-winning rather than being overly programmed oriented or entertainment-centered.

Stressing on the need for multiplication through discipleship making, impacting and imparting Christian values into young people’s heart, recognising and valuing the potentials of young people and utilising them, the speaker called upon the church to place youth ministry on top priority of the Church ministry.

Churches, he said, must be able to effectively use modern information technology and new media tools for evangelism, Church growth and strengthening of God’s kingdom.

In his closing remark, Rhi challenged the youth to live above pandemic by citing the story of Jesus and Peter walking on the water found in Matthew 14:25 – 34.

Daily Bible study was conducted throughout the week by providing prepared Bible study materials to the members. It also telecasted music, sports, and youth Sunday message through NBCC's YouTube channel featuring young artists.

Youth Sunday was observed with prayer and fasting all over the state. The youths prayed for God’s intervention and healing of the Covid-19, young people across Nagaland, frontline workers and government of the day for God’s protection, wisdom and justice.

NBCC has 1661 local churches with 2,12,307 youth members, it informed.

In essay competition, Bitsa K Sangtam of Longkhim Town Baptist Church under United Sangtam Baptist Lithroti Ashimukhong (USBLA) was adjudged in the first position while Kilentola Jamir, Mangkolemba Baptist Church under Ao Baptist Arogo Mungdang (ABAM) and Rüübino Peseyie of Calvary Baptist Church, Jotsoma under Angami Baptist Church Council (ABCC) were placed in second and third positions respectively.

The best three essays shall be awarded commendation certificate with few amounts of cash, while the best essay shall be published in both NBCC news letter and local dailies, it informed.
