DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has expressed deep sorrow and shock at the passing of Rev. Dr. Robert R Cunville, a "respected servant of God and a dear friend of the Naga people".
In a condolence message, NBCC General Secretary Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener stated that Rev. Dr. Cunville’s association with the Nagas, particularly with the NBCC, is fondly remembered. As an associate evangelist of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (BGEA), he carried a deep love for the people of Nagaland.
The NBCC recalled his role during the historic Billy Graham Crusade held in Kohima in 1972, which remains vivid in the collective memory of the Nagas.

"The crusade marked a significant spiritual milestone in the Christian history of Nagaland, bringing renewed faith, unity, and revival among believers," the statement read.
It noted that his involvement in the event contributed to the strengthening of the evangelical witness in the region. The council also recalled his recent message during "Nagaland United: A Gathering of Faith, Hope and Revival", organised by the Kohima Baptist Pastors’ Fellowship in Kohima.
"Rev. Dr. Cunville will be remembered as a humble and devoted man of God—soft-spoken, gracious, prayerful, and deeply caring toward others," the NBCC stated, adding that the Christian world has lost a committed evangelical preacher.
