NBCC calls for statewide prayer amid alcohol-related deaths, urging stronger prohibition enforcement and support for affected families across Nagaland
DIMAPUR — The Nagaland Baptist Church Council (NBCC) has called for collective prayer across the state on October 4 amid concerns over alcohol-related deaths and illnesses linked to suspected spurious or adulterated liquor.
In a statement, the NBCC urged churches to observe the day through community worship or prayer in homes and other places, calling on people to pray for bereaved families, those suffering from alcohol-related illnesses, young people and organisations working to protect communities.
According to the council, the recent deaths and illnesses had highlighted the dangers associated with alcohol consumption and the need to protect human life. It called on churches to continue raising awareness, strengthening families and supporting individuals struggling with alcohol dependence, while responding to the issue with compassion rather than condemnation.
The NBCC also acknowledged the efforts of civil society organisations, student bodies, community leaders and enforcement personnel working to address alcohol-related harm, and urged cooperation among these groups and the authorities.

The council called on the STATE government, legislators, police, and Excise and Prohibition authorities to act with wisdom, integrity and determination in protecting the public and enforcing the law.
It stressed that the existing prohibition framework should be implemented effectively, while urging authorities to address both the supply of illicit liquor and the demand for alcohol. It also called for vigilance against corruption, compromise and vested interests.
The NBCC urged churches across Nagaland to remain active in prayer, counselling and community outreach, particularly in supporting families affected by alcohol-related problems.
Calling for a long-term response beyond the present crisis, the council said collective efforts were needed to build healthier and safer communities, protect young people and promote responsible citizenship.
