Imphal,June 19 (EMN): Manipur Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren Singh on Monday said that two Manipur ministers have been assigned to represent the state government in the upcoming talk with the United Naga Council (UNC).
The central authority has been intimated in this regard, Chief Minister Biren said. But we’re yet to finalise the venue of the talk.
Biren was replying to questions on the proposed tripartite talk with the UNC during a media briefing in connection with the homecoming ceremony of a leader of armed group Kangleipak Communist Party (Lamphel group) at his Secretariat in Imphal this afternoon.
Informing that those militants who have surrendered four years back would be allowed to stay at their respective homes, he said that the government would provide skill development programmes to the surrendered militants that would enable them to find sustainable means of livelihood. Chief Minister said the programmes would be provided free of cost to those surrendered cadres and it would start from June 30.
Highlighting the achievement of the new government, he lauded the surrendered self style commander of the group for joining the mainstream after having faith in the new government in the state.
He also lauded the bold step taken by the commander to avoid violence and to join the path of peace and prosperity which would help progress and development in the state.
The surrendered ultra has been identified as Soraisam Modhuchandra Singh alias SM Meitei (45) son of Dinamani Singh of Thangmeiband Yumnam Leikai who works as Self Style Commander of KCP Lamphel faction after he joined the party through KK Nganba in 2003.
The arms and ammunitions deposited by him include two 9mm pistols with magazines and 9 live rounds.
The homecoming ceremony was attended by LM Khaute DGP Manipur, Dr J Suresh Babu Additional Chief Secretary (Home) and other top ranking police officials.
Responding to another question (during the media interaction) on June 15 incidents in Ukhrul district headquarters wherein two persons were killed, he said that an FIR has been lodged and the government will take action against the accused persons.
Earlier the armed group NSCN-IM had announced to conduct an inquiry into the incident.
He also informed that the necessary legal course of action will be taken in connection with the June 15 raid at a designated camp of Kuki National Front (P) in Kangpokpi district and subsequent arrest of 26 individuals with arms and ammunitions added Singh.
