Nature SBI Foundation observed World Hypertension Day at Modern Cambridge School in Kiphire to raise awareness about healthy lifestyles.

DIMAPUR — Nature SBI Foundation (SBIF), Kiphire, observed World Hypertension Day at Modern Cambridge School in Amahator town, Kiphire, on Saturday.
Speaking at the programme, Pikhumla, a staff nurse at Nature SBIF Kiphire, pointed out that hypertension, or high blood pressure, is known as a “silent killer” because many people do not know they have it.
According to an update, she stated that hypertension can lead to heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease if not treated properly.
She encouragced everyone to check their blood pressure regularly and know their health condition. She also spoke about the importance of healthy lifestyle habits such as eating nutritious food, engaging in regular exercise, maintaining a healthy body weight, avoiding smoking and alcohol, and following medical advice.

Pikhumla further shared diet tips on the DASH diet, which stands for Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension. She explained that the diet focuses on fruits, vegetables, whole grains, low-fat dairy products, and lean protein while reducing salt, sugar, and saturated fat intake.
T Kirithong Sangtam, Chairman of the School Management Committee, stated that education is important to lead a civilised life, and good health is necessary to enjoy life fully.
Longtili C Sangtam, Project Lead of Nature SBIF Nagaland stated that although World Hypertension Day is globally observed on May 17, the programme was conducted on May 16 since the actual date falls on a Sunday.
He expressed hope that the awareness and health camp would benefit the students and the public.
