Nature SBI Foundation and Assam Rifles conducted a health awareness camp for students in Kiphire.
DIMAPUR — Nature SBI Foundation, in collaboration with Assam Rifles, organised an awareness camp on communicable and non-communicable diseases at Good Shepherd High School, Kiphire, on Tuesday.
The programme was attended by the school authority, teachers, students and other representatives, according to an update.
The main speaker, Dr. Pritam Das, Assistant Commandant and ARMO, Assam Rifles, said that health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease.
He explained the meaning of communicable and non-communicable diseases. He said communicable diseases spread from one person to another through contaminated food and water, air, direct contact and insects, while non-communicable diseases do not spread from person to person and are mainly caused by unhealthy lifestyles, poor diet, lack of physical activity and hereditary factors.
Dr. Das advised everyone to avoid eating raw or uncooked food, as it may contain harmful germs. He encouraged students to eat freshly cooked food, drink clean and safe water, maintain personal hygiene and keep their surroundings clean.

He also highlighted the importance of regular exercise, drinking enough water every day and reducing salt intake to prevent hypertension (high blood pressure) and other lifestyle diseases.
The staff nurse of the Nature SBI Foundation, Kiphire, educated the students on the importance of personal hygiene, handwashing, balanced nutrition and disease prevention.
She encouraged students to wash their hands with soap before meals and after using the toilet, drink plenty of safe water, eat healthy and nutritious food, get adequate sleep, stay physically active and complete their vaccinations on time. She also advised them to seek medical care whenever they feel unwell and to share healthy habits with their families and friends.
At the end of the programme, Longtili C Sangtam, Project Lead, Nature SBI Foundation Nagaland, expressed gratitude to Dr. Pritam Das, the staff nurse, the school authority, teachers, students and all the representatives for attending the programme and making the awareness camp a success.
