Dimapur, Nov. 19 (EMN): A three-day national seminar on ‘Crop protection: Current trend and Future perspectives,’ organised by the department of Plant Pathology, Entomology & Agronomy, SASRD: NU, Medziphema campus concluded on Nov. 18.
A valedictory programme was graced by Principal Secretary Agriculture & APC T Imkonglemba Ao, as chief guest while director of Agriculture and Horticulture Helie Rupre-o and Dr. R E Lotha as special guests.
The chief guest in his address said the seminar was the need of the hour and advocated that recommendations made during deliberations should be reflected in the state policies of agri and allied sectors.
Stating that prime minister’s ‘Look East policy’ with special emphasis on the Northeast region was a great incentive, he said “the Nagaland Vision 2030’ document has incorporated the 3 I’s; Inclusive, Intensive and Integrative - meaning that the approach is farmers centric and volume of production is enhanced by integration of new technologies and inputs.”
He also opined that along with crop protection, production of crops that is marketable should also be considered. He further suggested to scientists gathered to do research and development in the state which would benefit not only the scientist community but also the farming community.
While giving feedback on behalf of delegates Dr. C P Robert, senior scientist and head, ICAR KVK, CARD Pathanamthitta, Kerela, said the seminar was one of the best he had attended. Feedback on behalf of farmers was presented by Nihokhu Chophy. pecial guests also delivered short speeches.
The chief guest also gave away the awards for Best Poster to Pezangulie Chakruno, PhD scholar, dept. of Plant Pathology, SASRD:NU and Rokozeno, PhD scholar, dept. of Entomology, AAU, Jorhat, Assam. The award for Best Oral Presenter was given to Chandrika Buragohain, dept. of Plant Pathology and Sandip Patra, dept. of Entomology both from AAU, Jorhat, Assam and Moakala Changkija, SASRD:NU in the discipline of Agronomy.
The programme was chaired by Prof. Akali Sema while welcome address delivered by dean SASRD Prof. A K Makar and organizing secretary Dr. Sushanta Banik presented the seminar report. God’s blessing was invoked by Dr. Rokoneituo Nakhro and vote of thanks was proposed by co-organizing secretary Dr. Imtinaro L.
Earlier, farmers from Medziphema, Socunoma, Mezoma, Sirhima and Pherima villages interacted with scientists from the disciplines of plant pathology, entomology, agronomy, horticulture and livestock production and management.
