Dimapur Government College and Patkai Christian College mark National Science Day with talks, contests and awards.

DIMAPUR — The Science Club, comprising all Science departments of Dimapur Government College (DGC), observed National Science Day, while Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) also marked the occasion in Chümoukedima on Saturday.
Dimapur Government College: At DCG, speaking at the programme, Dr. T Tiakaba Jamir, Principal, remarked that the event would go down in the history of the College as the first major event organised by the Science Club and shared that the members are fortunate to be the first batch of the Science stream.
According to a press release, he highlighted that the nation celebrates the day to mark the discovery of the Raman Effect by the Nobel laureate and an Indian physicist, Sir C.V. Raman.
He spoke on environmental issues and the responsibility of the scientific community towards environmental protection. He further exhorted the students to dream big and work diligently for excellence.

Nagaland districts launch HPV vaccination drive
The resource person, Modozho Mathew Dukru, Assistant Professor, Department of Computer Science, delivered a talk on the theme “Women in Science: Catalysing Viksit Bharat".
He highlighted the importance of women’s participation in science for achieving India’s development goals by 2047 and acknowledged inspirational women scientists of India. He stressed the need to bridge gender gaps, especially in rural areas, and noted that with proper support, women in Nagaland can contribute significantly to sustainable development and innovation.
To mark the celebration, a poster competition on the theme “Science and technology for a sustainable future” was also held on February 27. The winners were awarded certificates with citations.
Patkai Christian College: In Chümoukedima, Patkai Christian College (Autonomous) celebrated National Science Day at the Bundrock Chapel.
Themed “Women in Science – Catalysing Viksit Bharat", the programme aimed at honouring women’s contributions to science and promoting scientific awareness among students.
The event was attended by Supongnukshi Ao, Chief Conservator of Forest (Environment, Biodiversity and Research), Government of Nagaland, as the guest of honour.
In his keynote address, Supongnukshi highlighted the crucial role of women in national development, research, and education. He added that India’s growth relies on inclusive development and strategic planning. Drawing from his experience working with Japanese collaborators, he underscored the importance of discipline, patience, and a process-driven approach in scientific work.
He urged students to cultivate resilience, scientific temper, and perseverance, reminding them that innovation often results from persistence and learning from setbacks.
The second session featured academic competitions aimed at fostering scientific thinking and creativity. Students participated in quizzes, extempore speeches, and model presentations representing departments such as Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics, Geology, Botany, Zoology, and Computer Science.
In the extempore speech competition, the Department of Mathematics secured first position and the Department of Zoology second position. In the quiz competition, Chemistry secured first position and Zoology second position. In the model presentation, Physics secured first position and Botany second position.
