DIMAPUR — The National People's Party (NPP) Nagaland state unit and its youth wing National People’s Youth Front (NPYF) have expressed deep concern and strong opposition to the recent incident of mistreatment and unjust detention of two Catholic nuns in Chhattisgarh.
In a press release, the NPP Nagaland alleged that two Catholic nuns and three girls were reportedly detained under false and communal charges. “This act of intimidation is a direct violation of constitutional values and religious freedom,” it stated.
The NPP Nagaland endorsed their national president Conrad K Sangma’s appeal to the chief minister of Chhattisgarh, requesting a prompt, fair, and impartial investigation into the matter and demanding unbiased justice.

“NPP Nagaland stands in strong solidarity with the Christian minority community, whose rights and dignity must be protected at all times. We condemn any attempt to harass or criminalize individuals based on their faith and urge authorities to ensure such incidents are not repeated,” it stated.
“We call for the immediate withdrawal of the fabricated charges against the nuns and for a reaffirmation of India’s commitment to justice, secularism, and the protection of the social and secular fabric of the nation.”
In a separate statement, the NPYF stated that ““Acts of aggression against individuals devoted to community service tarnish the values that hold our diverse nation together. India’s unity depends on mutual respect across all faiths and traditions.
“Targeting religious workers especially those engaged in selfless work among the underprivileged is an unacceptable breach of human dignity and our constitution spirit.”
The party’s youth front urged the Chhattisgarh government to conduct an unbiased judicial review and bring all those involved to justice without prejudice or delay. It further appealed to the central government and the National Commission for Minorities to act swiftly in protecting the rights and freedom of all communities and to ensure that such incidents are not repeated.
