Dimapur, July 14 (EMN): The National Lok Adalat (NLA) benches constituted in ten district headquarters in Nagaland took up 949 cases and disposed a total of 326 cases with a total settlement amounting to INR 2,47,68,521,00.
According to a press release received here on Saturday from the legal service, the settlement amount includes fine money, bank recovery money, and compensation money among others. The updates informed that the disposed cases comprised of 39 cases which were presently pending in the courts at various levels, and 287 cases which were at the pre-litigation stages.
The Lok Adalat sittings were conducted within the premises of the District Court buildings, coordinated by District Legal Services Authorities (DLSA) in different sectors for amicable settlement of disputes and cases.
Prior to the commencement of the Lok Adalat, DLSA organised awareness programmes, in which public were encouraged and apprised about the benefits of settling dispute through the Lok Adalat. Judicial officers acted as the presiding officers and the panel lawyers served as the conciliators along with the para legal volunteers as members. The proceedings were also conducted in local dialects for convenience of the uneducated litigants without stressing on legal technicalities, the note added, it informed.
It also informed that the next National Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on Sep. 8.
