National Lok Adalat: 78 cases disposed of in Nagaland

Dimapur, March 9 (EMN): Joining the rest of the nation, the District Legal Services Authorities organised the National Lok Adalat (People’s Court) in all the district headquarters of Nagaland constituting 11 Lok Adalat benches on Saturday. A total of 538 cases were taken up for settlement and 78 cases were disposed of before the jurisdiction of the Lok Adalat, according to Nungsang C. Jamir, nodal officer for National Lok Adalat, Nagaland State Legal Services Authority. The programme aimed at resolving disputes and cases through alternative dispute resolution mechanisms (ADR). “The total settlement amount involved in the disposed cases amounts to INR 87,48,367 (Rupees eighty seven lakh forty eight thousand three hundred sixty seven) only,” said the stamen, adding that “settlement amount is the amount mutually agreed for payment between the litigants (or) parties involved in a dispute where the parties after compromise arrive at a willing amount to settle the disputes for the damage caused or payment through amicably negotiated amount on a claim by a party” and the fine money, bank recovery money, compensation money, etc involved in the disposed cases. The Lok Adalat sittings were held at the premises of the district court buildings and prior information was given to parties and litigants to settle their disputes through the People’s Court, informed the press release. The Lok Adalat benches were headed by the district judges -- Chief Judicial Magistrate and Civil Judges – and the next National Lok Adalat is scheduled to be held on July 13.
