As India observes National Librarians' Day, Nagaland Library Association extends greetings to all library professionals across the State.
Every year on 12 August, India observes National Librarians' Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Dr. S. R. Ranganathan, the Father of Library Science in India. His vision transformed libraries into dynamic centres of learning, guided by the timeless Five Laws of Library Science.
The 2026 theme, "Libraries: Connecting People, Preserving Knowledge, Empowering the Future," highlights the enduring role of libraries in promoting literacy, preserving knowledge, supporting research, and ensuring equitable access to information in an increasingly digital world.
On this occasion, the Nagaland Library Association (NLA) extends its warm greetings to all library professionals across the State. We sincerely appreciate your dedication to advancing education, lifelong learning, and information services.
This day is also an opportunity to reflect on the challenges faced by library professionals in Nagaland. Despite their vital contributions, many continue to receive limited recognition, inadequate support, and insufficient professional opportunities. A strong education system depends on strong libraries, and strong libraries depend on empowered library professionals.
The NLA encourages all library professionals and rural libraries to register or renew their membership with the Association so that, together, we can strengthen the library profession in Nagaland. The Association also remains committed to assisting libraries with professional guidance, library development, and related services.
We call upon policymakers, educational institutions, and the public to recognise libraries as essential pillars of development and to invest in library infrastructure, professional recognition, and better service conditions.
