- DIMAPUR — A
‘massive’ road sinking near Phesama on National Highway 2—the viral road link
between Kohima and Mao in Manipur—has prompted authorities to close the
highway.
- In a traffic advisory issued on Sunday, the deputy
commissioner of Kohima informed that the sinking occurred between Chainage KM
192.050 and KM 192.150 on NH-2.
- Effective immediately, all heavy vehicles en route to Kohima
from Manipur have been directed to stop at Khuzama. Similarly, heavy vehicles

- Consequently, alternative routes have been designated for
Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs): Kohima-bound vehicles may use the Demori
Cove/JCC-Kisama-Phesama route, which is open for one-way traffic only. Meanwhile,
Southern/Manipur-bound vehicles have been advised to take the BSF
Camp-Chakhabama-Kidima-Viswema/Mao Gate route.
- The Kohima district administration has also urged the
general public to stay clear of affected electric poles and conductors until
the department concerned undertakes necessary safety measures.
