DIMAPUR — The Eastern Zone Bench of National Green Tribunal (NGT) has granted time to several Nagaland government departments and agencies to file affidavits of compliance in connection with the Sunrise Colony dumping site case.
In an order dated August 25, the bench directed the state of Nagaland through the chief secretary; commissioner and secretary of Municipal Affairs; director of Municipal Affairs; and deputy commissioner of Dimapur, as well as the Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) through its chief executive officer, to submit compliance affidavits within four weeks.

Further, the tribunal instructed the Nagaland Pollution Control Board through its chairman to take appropriate action against these agencies in line with earlier directions issued by both the Supreme Court and the NGT, and to file an Action Taken Report within two weeks.
The matter has been listed for further consideration on November 11.
In its previous hearing on July 11, the bench had pulled up the DMC for failing to appear and not filing its affidavit. The tribunal had also noted serious lapses in compliance with orders to carry out bio-mining and bio-remediation at the Sunrise Colony dumpsite and to prevent pollution of the Dhansiri River.
