Dimapur, Dec. 14: ICAR - National Research Centre on Mithun and Indian Society of Veterinary Immunology and Biotechnology (ISVIB) held the silver jubilee convention and the three-day national conference VIBCON 2018 on "Innovative Biotechnology Approaches for Improving Animal Health and Productivity” on Dec. 13 at ICAR-NRC on Mithun, Medziphema.
Governor of Nagaland P B Acharya graced the occasion and congratulated the institution for the silver jubilee convention. He pointed out that as Nagaland is bestowed with rich natural resources, great potentialities and universities, there is opportunity for promoting itself. He quoted the Prime Minister of India who stated that ‘unless North-east develops, India cannot progress.’
The governor asked the gathering to retrospect on their achievement and contribution to the society, stating that giving academic knowledge should not be the end role of universities and research centres but should rather make its research available to the people according to their need and preference. He also called upon the universities and research centres to deliver what they can do to empower the unpowered.
The national conference will continue till Saturday, Dec. 15 during which distinguished scientists from across the country will speak on several topics like molecular diagnostics, food biotechnology and bioinformatics, emerging disease, production and reproduction biotechnology, vaccine and immune-therapeutics and improvement of animal productivity of North-east hill region.
Several awards, including Young Scientist and Mid-Career Scientist will be given away on the third day of the conference.
