MEA did not tell ministers there will be no withdrawal of troops: Sources
New Delhi, July 14 (IANS): Senior ministers were not told by the Ministry of External Affairs that there would be “no withdrawal” of Indian troops from Doklam, where Indian and Chinese troops are in a stand-off. “Some sections of media have reported that MEA has told senior Ministers today that there would be no withdrawal of Indian troops from Doklam. Such false reports are without any basis,” sources said. The brief statement triggered a number of questions whether India was preparing for withdrawing its troops from Doklam in the Sikkim sector, but there were no answers from the government. China has been demanding that India must withdraw troops from Doklam for any dialogue between the two sides.
Lalu appears before special CBI courts
Ranchi, July 14 (PTI): Former Bihar Chief Minister and RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav today appeared before two different special CBI courts for his alleged involvement in various fodder scam cases. Yadav appeared before the special CBI Judge S S Prasad in a case lodged for alleged fraudulent withdrawal of funds from Chaibasa Treasury. He also appeared before the CBI judge Shiv Pal Singh in connection with RCA/64 pertaining to the alleged fraudulent withdrawal of funds from Deoghar Treasury.
Bengal topper’s name appears in JU merit list without applying
Kolkata, July 14 (IANS): West Bengal Class 12 topper Archisman Panigrahi is in a unique predicament, his name tops the Jadavpur University merit list in four subjects without him ever applying to the varsity. “I never applied to Jadavpur University but I came to know through a friend that my name figured in the top in the merit list for physics, chemistry, geology and mathematics. The marks and birthdate were not mine,” the student said. He said he has informed the varsity authorities. According to varsity vice chancellor Suranjan Das the matter will be taken up with the cyber crime department of the police.
Man kills Gurudwara sewadar, climbs dome to avoid arrest
Fatehgarh Sahib (Pb), July 14 (PTI): The chief ‘sewadar’ of a Gurudwara here was allegedly killed inside the premises by a community member, who then perched himself on the structure’s dome to evade arrest. The deceased was the chief sewadar (relegious volunteer) of the Gurdwara Bibangarh. Police have registered a case of murder and launched an investigation into the case, the official said, adding that the accused was being questioned.
Ramdev’s Patanjali ventures into private security business
Haridwar, July 14 (IANS): Yoga guru Baba Ramdev-promoted Patanjali Group, which has gained a major foothold in the fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) market and Ayurvedic products business, is all set to enter the private security business, Patanjali officials said on Friday. With the punch line “Parakram Suraksha, Aapki Raksha”, the security wing of the fledgling Patanjali would be known as Ramdev’s Parakram Suraksha Private Limited. It would rope in retired army personnel, para-military troopers and police personnel to “differently and professionally train” recruits as private security guards. “Our aim is to now inspire a sense of security among individuals and resolve to work towards the protection of our country,” the statement from the yoga guru said. Officials said the company would have a pan-Indian presence.
The Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) has rescued six children from Bihar while they were being taken to Mumbai for working in garment factories and arrested two human traffickers, an official said on Friday. The children, aged between 14 and 17, were rescued on Thursday from Bairgania railway station. Three children belong to Nepal, while others are from areas near Sitamarhi. The traffickers, one of them from Nepal, were handed over to the Government Railway Police while the children were handed over to a non-governmental organisation Childline.
The Centre today told the Supreme Court that it is taking steps to deal with the issue of child pornography in its entirety and around 3,500 websites hosting such content have been blocked last month. The government told a three-judge bench headed by Justice Dipak Misra that it has asked the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to consider installation of jammers in schools to block access to child pornographic content. The government told the court that it would file a status report on the steps taken by it to curb child pornography. The court has asked the Centre to file a status report within two days. The apex court was hearing a petition which has sought direction to the Centre to take appropriate steps to curb the menace of child pornography across the country.
