PM Modi visiting Israel on July 4
New Delhi, June 28 (IANS): Israel on Wednesday said it warmly welcomes Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his visit - the first by an Indian Prime Minister - to Israel on July 4-6 at the invitation of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. “The visit will include a call on Israeli President Reuven Rivlin, and a working meeting and dinner with the Israeli Prime Minister. It will also include high-level bilateral meetings and other various components which reflect the fabric of the Indo-Israeli relations,” a statement from the Israeli embassy here said.
Police arrest three separatist leaders in Kashmir
Srinagar, June 28 (IANS): Three separatist leaders were arrested here on Wednesday, a day before they were to be questioned by the NIA in Delhi. They include hardline Hurriyat leader Syed Ali Geelani’s son-in-law Altaf Ahmad Shah. The other two were identified as Ayaz Akbar and Mehrajudin Kalwal. All of them were taken to the Rajbagh police station. The Jammu and Kashmir Police said the arrests were a precaution to maintain law and order. The National Investigation Agency has summoned the three to New Delhi for questioning on Thursday in connection with a hawala racket linked to separatist violence in Jammu and Kashmir.
Slain Junaid’s brother shifted to Apollo Hospital
New Delhi, June 28 (IANS): Sakir, brother of Junaid who was stabbed to death in a passenger train on June 23, was shifted to the city-based Apollo Hospital on Tuesday. Sakir was earlier admitted to the trauma centre of All India Institute of Medical Sciences. “The boy (Sakir) was bought to Apollo today (Tuesday). Team has already been constituted to monitor his condition and provide the required treatment,” said an Apollo Hospital doctor.
First batch of pilgrims leaves for Amarnath
Jammu, June 28 (IANS): The first batch of Amarnath pilgrims left here for the cave shrine in the Kashmir Valley amid extraordinary security arrangements after intelligent inputs cautioned of militant attacks, police said. The Amarnath Yatra begins on Thursday. A total of 2,280 pilgrims left the Bhagwati Nagar Yatri Niwas here for the Himalayan cave shrine in Anantnag district in 72 vehicles at 5.22 a.m., a police official said.
20 students hurt as tree crashes on prayer assembly
Raigad (Maharashtra), June 28 (IANS): At least 20 students were hurt when a large tree crashed in the compound of a school in Kapde-Burke village here on Wednesday morning, officials said. The incident occurred at the Vardayani Secondary School when the children had assembled for morning mass prayer. Raigad district has been lashed by heavy rains and stormy weather. The injured children, including two reported to be in a serious condition, were rushed to hospitals for treatment, police said.
The killing of a furniture trader by criminals led to violent protests by villagers in Bihar’s Siwan district on Wednesday, police said. Rashid Sarkar, 26, was shot dead on Tuesday night when he was sleeping on the roof of his house in Mahpur village. Angry over the killing, hundreds of villagers blocked the Siwan-Andara-Hussainganj road and set ablaze two vehicles and damaged several others. The house of the alleged accused was also torched, a police officer said.
In a relief to law aspirants, the Delhi High Court on Wednesday asked Delhi University to continue admitting 2,310 students in its LLB course. A division bench of Justice Manmohan and Justice Vinod Goel in an interim order allowed the university to take 2,310 students as against the Bar Council of India’s (BCI) cap of 1,440 seats for the 2017-18 academic session. “Don’t reduce the number of seats. Students want to study, let them study. DU has been teaching 2,310 students till now. You (BCI) decided to reduce the seats to half. We need time to decide the case. Till then let 2,310 study,” bench said. It posted the matter for next hearing on August 21.
Students from University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES) here have left behind 39 teams from across the world by winning the first position at the global aerospace competition CanSat held in Texas, US, this year. The 23-member multi-domain team included students of Aerospace Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Computer Science Engineering, Material Science Engineering, Instrumentation and Control Engineering and design studies.
A mob over a 100 people attacked a man on suspicion that he slaughtered a cow after allegedly finding the carcass of the animal near his house in Giridih district, the police said. The police rescued him from the marauding mob and admitted him to a local hospital, but later shifted him to another hospital in Dhanbad owing to the seriousness of his injuries, they said. The man was out of danger, the police said, adding that some persons were also injured.
