7 killed in Himachal road accident
Shimla, June 26 (IANS): Seven pilgrims, including six of a family, were killed when a private vehicle skidded off the road and fell into a gorge here in Himachal Pradesh early on Monday, the police said. The vehicle carrying 12 persons fell more than 200 metres below after skidding off the road. The five survivors sustained injuries and were admitted to the Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital here. They were on their way to their village in Sirmaur district when the accident occurred near Gumma, some 190 km from here. It is one of the remotest places in the state. What caused the the vehicle to skid has not been ascertained.
4 of a family killed road accident
Bhubaneswar, June 26 (IANS): Four persons of a family, including a cancer patient they were shifting to a different hospital, were killed and another injured when a truck hit their car in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district on Monday, police said. The accident occurred on the National Highway-55 near Nadhara. While one woman and three men were killed, one was injured, said police, adding the injured has been admitted to a community health centre at Hindol.
Debt recovery panel officer held for bribery
Mumbai, June 26 (IANS): A recovery officer with the Debt Recovery Tribunal (DRT) in Mumbai and his accomplice were arrested for allegedly demanding Rs 7 lakh bribe for releasing payment in a case, a CBI official said on Monday. Recovery officer B.S. Sane and middleman Vijay Kumar were arrested on Sunday and produced before a special court which sent them to the agency’s custody till June 28. The agency also conducted raids at Sane’s residence and recovered documents of fixed deposits worth Rs 65 lakh, Kisan Vikas Patra investments worth Rs 9 lakh and some property documents.
Two arrested in connection with Rs 2 crore gold heist
Mumbai, June 26 (PTI): Police have arrested two persons for allegedly robbing a Mumbai-based jeweller last month of gold worth over Rs 2 crore. The duo hails from Rajasthan, police said. Police then launched a manhunt and sent teams to Hyderabad and Rajasthan. The duo was, however, nabbed from suburban Borivali on June 23, another official said. They have been sent to police custody till June 30. Police have recovered 6.3 kg of stolen gold, worth Rs 1.9 crore from their possession, he said. Further investigation into the matter was underway, said the official.
3 day Natnl level movement from July 24 on farmers’ problems
Kumbakonam (TN) June 26 (PTI): CPI today said that it would organise a national level movement on July 24, 25 and 26 demanding redress for agriculturists problems and implementation of the Swaminathan committee recommendations. Stating this, CPI National Secretary told reporters here that the movement would be in various forms, including ‘fill the jails stir’. Demanding that the government implement the Swaminathan committee recommendations, he alleged that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had taken several decisions over the last three years ‘experimentally.’ Public sector companies were under threat of being privatised, there was under employment and job losses and the IT sector was in crisis, he alleged.
An FIR was filed against two women in South Goa on Monday for insulting the national flag, abusing Goa Health Minister Vishwajit Rane and assaulting his bodyguard during an official visit to a local hospital on Sunday. The FIR was lodged at Margao police station in South Goa district. Rane has alleged that the two women, who publicly heckled him -- an incident which was caught on video -- had been planted by the Congress party. The video of the two women heckling Rane had gone viral on Sunday.
