Madhya Pradesh sees 10 farmer suicides in a week
Dhar/Narsinghpur, June 17 (IANS): Two more farmers committed suicide in Madhya Pradesh, taking to 10 the number of farmer suicides in the state this week. The deceased farmer’s family told the police that he committed suicide as he was upset over the pressure built by the bank for repayment of debt. Another farmer died after consuming sulphas pills. R.K. Soni, the in-charge of Narsinghpur Police Station, told IANS that the farmer bought a piece of land 10 years ago but could not get it registered till date. Madhya Pradesh has been witnessing widespread protests by farmers demanding loan waiver and remunerative prices for their produce.
No arrest in lynching of CPI-ML man in Rajasthan
Jaipur, June 17 (IANS): The Rajasthan Police is yet to make any arrests in the death of Zafar Khan, a local CPI-ML worker, who was allegedly lynched by sanitation workers on Friday when he tried to stop them from photographing women defecating in the open, officials said on Saturday. The incident took place in Pratapgarh on Friday when Zafar Khan, a local union leader, saw some civic authority officials photographing women defecating in the open and objected to their taking pictures. An altercation broke out between the team and Khan. It is alleged that Khan was beaten up badly. He was taken to a hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.
Kejriwal, Sisodia inspect anganwadi centres in Delhi
New Delhi, June 17 (PTI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, his deputy Manish Sisodia and government officers today undertook a one-day inspection of anganwadi centres across the city. The move came days after “irregularities” were found at some of the anganwadi centres in east Delhi’s Krishna Nagar and Gandhi Nagar. During his inspection, Kejriwal checked attendance registers and kitchens. Around 800 officers participated in the inspection. He had appealed to the public to come forward and report any such irregularity at the anganwadi centres to the government.
