Adityanath meets Modi, discusses development projects
New Delhi, June 12 (IANS): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and some Union Ministers regarding various development projects in his state. The ministers he met were Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Minister of State for Power Piyush Goyal. During the meeting (with Power Minister), “we discussed important issues like power generation and transmission and improvements in the supply of adequate power to the state”, Adityanath tweeted.
4 injured in grenade explosion
Srinagar, June 12 (IANS): Four security men were injured late on Sunday evening in a grenade explosion in old city area of Srinagar. Police said militants hurled a grenade at a bunker of the security forces in Saraf Kadal in Srinagar around 10.30 p.m.. “Four security men, including a CRPF sub-inspector and three police constables were injured in the explosion. “The injured have been shifted to hospital for treatment,” a police spokesman said.
Gang of robbers busted in Bengal
Kolkata, June 12 (IANS): Nine miscreants of a gang were arrested from West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district and a huge cache of arms and ammunition were seized from them, police said on Monday. According to police, the miscreants were earlier convicted in various cases of robbery in and around the district. “The nine miscreants have been slapped with charges of making preparation to commit dacoity (IPC 399), assembling for committing dacoity (IPC 402) and various sections of the Arms Act. They would be produced in the Diamond Harbour court later on Monday,” the officer added.
Bank lockers broken, burgled
Ghaziabad, June 12 (IANS): Burglars broke open the lockers of a Punjab National Bank (PNB) branch in Modinagar and escaped with valuables kept in them, police said on Monday. The burglars first bored a hole in the concrete boundary wall of the bank located at the Modi Cloth Mills in Ghaziabad district to get inside and then forced access to the locker area. The crime, a police officer said, may have occurred on Saturday or Sunday when the bank was shut. Police blamed the bank’s poor security system for the crime.
Mild tremors in Uttarakhand
Dehradun, June 12 (IANS): A low-intensity earthquake hit Uttarakhand on Monday afternoon, officials said. The tremors, felt mainly in Uttarkashi, created panic among the people. Many rushed out of their homes. The intensity of the earthquake was 3 on the Richter Scale, said officials. Its depth was 10 km below the surface.
SC permits CBSE to declare NEET 2017 results
New Delhi, June 12 (IANS): The Supreme Court on Monday permitted the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to declare the results of NEET 2017 for under graduate medical courses. Staying May 24 order of the Madurai bench of the Madras High Court, Justice Pant passing the order said: “The High Court shouldn’t have easily and liberally interfered with the schedule.” The apex court order will pave the way for counselling and admission to 56,000 MBBS/BDS seats in the country. NEET exam was held on May 7.
Indian Navy searches for Mexican woman cadet who fell overboard
Mumbai, June 12 (IANS): The Indian Navy has launched a massive search operation for a woman cadet who reportedly fell overboard from the Mexican Sail Training Ship, STS Cuauhtemoc, an official said on Monday. The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on Sunday, about 560 nautical miles west of Goa, as the vessel was sailing to Mumbai. According to information, the woman cadet had not donned life-saving gear when she fell overboard.
NHRC notice to Bihar govt for not providing mortuary van
Patna, June 12 (IANS): The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a media report that a man in Bihar’s Purnia district had to carry the body of his deceased wife on a motor cycle, as the authorities at the district hospital failed to provide him a mortuary van. The NHRC has issued a notice to the Chief Secretary of Bihar government, demanding a report in this matter within four weeks. The man, a poor labourer, approached an ambulance driver, who demanded Rs 2,500, which he could not afford. Ultimately, the man had to carry his wife’s body on a motor cycle with his son’s help.
Jute geotextiles suitable for roads, says Indian Road Cong
Kolkata, June 12 (IANS): The Indian Road Congress has recognised certain types of jute geotextiles as suitable for constructing roads, a top official said on Monday. The recognition by the Congress is expected to have a positive impact on the future of the jute industry, Ministry of Textiles’ Joint Secretary Subrata Gupta said at the “Road Show on Textiles India-2017” here. Use of jute geotextiles in road construction enhanced the quality of roads, he claimed. At present, three jute varieties are being used as geotextiles in construction of roads under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). In West Bengal, jute geotextiles are being used for building about 453 km of roads under the PMGSY.
Punjab Police inspector arrested in drug trafficking case
Chandigarh, June 12 (PTI): The Special Task Force of Punjab Police today arrested an inspector on the charge of drug trafficking and seized a large haul of drugs, arms and ammunition from his official quarters. While drugs were seized from the Phagwara house, weapons were found in the Jalandhar residence, STF chief, Additional Director General of Police H S Sidhu said in a press conference. Police seized 7 kg of narcotics, including 4 kg of heroin, one Italy-made 9 mm pistol, live cartridges of various calibers and Rs 16.50 lakh in cash in the raids. “We will approach DGP tomorrow and present facts about the case. The house in Phagwara from where recovery was made was even not in his name,” claimed Nitin Arora, the inspector’s son-in-law.
