Delhi sizzles at 44 degrees on Saturday, Sunday to be hotter
New Delhi, June 3 (IANS): Residents of the national capital faced searing heat on Saturday as the mercury in some parts crossed 44 degrees Celsius while the average maximum temperature was at 42.6 degrees Celsius, two notches above average. Sunday is likely to be hotter. The temperature in the Ridge area and Ayanagar touched 44.5 degrees and in Palam it hit 44.8 degrees, four nothces above the season’s average. The maximum temperature in Gururgam and Faridabad was 43 degree Celsius. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the mercury will rise further on Sunday.
36 of marriage party injured in road accident
Bhadohi, June 3 (PTI): At least 36 members of a marriage party were injured when the bus they were travelling in collided with a truck in Mehdipur village on the Grand Trunk Road here, the police said today According to the police, the accident took place in the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. The marriage party was returning from Mirzapur village in the bus which collided with the truck, they said. The police said the bus driver was driving the vehicle on the wrong side of the road and one of its headlight was also not working.
‘Bengal No.1 in rural job scheme’
Kolkata, June 3 (IANS): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said the state ranks No.1 in the country in the rural job guarantee scheme for financial year 2015-16, as per a central government announcement. “We are No.1 in the country in 100-days work on convergence and livelihood augmentation for financial year 2015-16, as per announcement of the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India yesterday,” Banerjee said in a Facebook post.
No Indian casualties, Indian Army denies Pakistan claim
New Delhi, June 3 (IANS): The Indian Army on Saturday denied the Pakistan Army’s claim that it killed five Indian soldiers along the Line of Control. The Indian Army said a statement by the Inter Services Public Relations, the Pakistan military’s media wing, was “wrong”. It said that Indian troops were involved in “unprovoked ceasefire violation” at Tatta Pani along the LoC, and the Pakistani forces “violently responded”, destroyed Indian bunkers and killed five Indian soldiers while many were injured. The Indian Army said there has been “no casualty” on the Indian side, “except to one woman yesterday (Friday)”.
CBI arrests army officer, middleman in army transfer racket
New Delhi, June 3 (IANS): The Central Bureau of Investigation on Saturday said it has arrested Lt Col Ranganathan Suvramani Moni and middlemen Gaurav Kohli in an Army transfer racket. The arrests were made from the Army Headquarters here on Friday, a CBI official told IANS. The probe agency said it has busted a transfer racket operating in the army headquarters here which involved senior officers who were manipulating postings of officers in lieu of huge illegal gratification. The CBI has filed an FIR against Lt Col Moni, army officer Purshottam, middleman Kohli along with several other unknown persons. The FIR was filed under the Prevention of Corruption Act and several sections of the Indian Penal Code. The officers have been charged with criminal conspiracy, demand and acceptance of illegal gratification and using influence over public servant. Moni had been commissioned in August 1994 and was posted with Army Headquarters since August 2015. He belongs to Thiruvananthapuram.
