4 arrested for allegedly selling chips to petrol pumps
Muzaffarnagar, May 6 (PTI): Police have busted a gang allegedly selling electronic chips for dispensing lesser quantity of petrol with the arrest of its four members. The four accused were identified as Abbas, Arun Kumar, Ajay and Gajendra, he said, one chip, eight remote controls and Rs. 1,83,500 cash was also recovered from their possession. The chip, costing around Rs. 3,000, reduced the output by nearly five to ten per cent. It is attached with a wire linked to a remote control. The remote control sets the limit and if a customer takes 1 litre petrol from any station, he would end up getting 940 ml or less.
9 Odisha ministers resign ahead of reshuffle
Bhubaneswar, May 6 (IANS): Nine Odisha ministers on Saturday tendered their resignation paving the way for Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to reshuffle the cabinet. Sanjay Dasburma, Pranab Prakash Das, Arun Sahoo, Pradeep Panigrahi, Pushpendra Singhdeo, Lal Bihari Himirika, Sudam Marndi, Jogendra Behera and Debi Prasad Mishra have put in their papers. Meanwhile, Patnaik expressed hope that the ministerial reshuffle will attribute towards the growth and development of people of Odisha besides strengthening the party. Patnaik may go in for a cabinet reshuffle on Sunday morning before leaving for New Delhi to attend the meeting on the Maoist threat convened by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on May 8.
WhatsApp helps prevent minor girl’s marriage in Maharashtra
Aurangabad (Maharashtra), May 6 (IANS): A WhatsApp message sent by an alert neighbour to a Mumbai journalist, who in turn alerted the authorities, helped prevent a minor girl’s marriage in this tourist city, officials said on Saturday. Prompt police action foiled the marriage of the girl - aged 17 years and 8 months - in Harsul area of the city on Friday afternoon. The Mumbai journalist forwarded the WhatsApp message to the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission Chairperson Vijaya Rahate. The police team led by Inspector Dnyanesh Sable reached the marriage venue where full merry-making was underway with dancing, music and the marriage feast being readied nearby. Shrirame and Rahate said that though social networking sites have a lot of irrelevant stuff circulating, if used properly it can act as a major catalyst in preventing such potentially serious incidents.
Man forced to carry son’s body; NHRC issues notice to UP
New Delhi, May 6 (PTI): The NHRC has issued a notice to the Uttar Pradesh government after a labourer had to carry his teenage son’s body on his shoulders as he was allegedly denied an ambulance by a hospital in Etawah district. In a video which went viral recently on social and electronic media, 45-year-old labourer Udayveer alleged that doctors at the Etawah government hospital did not treat his son Pushpendra and turned him away. He was forced to carry the body of his 15-year-old son on his shoulder after he was allegedly denied help by doctors at the hospital on May 1. Citing the report, the NHRC said “the doctors at the hospital neither offered the ambulance service to the father of a deceased boy nor informed him about the facility to take his son’s body back home.”
Barely a month after a youth live streamed his final moments on Facebook before jumping to death, a 32-year-old woman lawyer planned to commit suicide in a similar way but was stopped in time, police said today. Priyanka Jethalal Maru went to the 18th floor of an under-construction building in Sewri area yesterday morning. After a resident of a nearby building called the control room, a police team reached the spot and persuaded her not to take the extreme step.

The diective was given by the city police during a meeting at Lalbazar police headquarter with about 30 major bars/restaurants/clubs who frequently sought permission for late closing of their premises (for serving liquor) beyond midnight.
