2 main accused in Rewari gang-rape arrested
Chandigarh, Sep. 23 (IANS): The Haryana Police’s Special Investigating Team (SIT) on Sunday arrested the two main accused in the Rewari gang-rape case. The accused, Pankaj and Manish, were on the run for almost two weeks. They were arrested from Satnali in Mahendragarh district. The victim, a 19-year-old school topper, was abducted and gang-raped after being drugged on September 12 while she was on the way to a coaching institute.
Nun rape: Bishop brought to convent where abuse took place
Kottayam (Kerala) Sep. 23 (IANS): Bishop Franco Mulakkal, who has been arrested for raping a nun and presently in police custody after his bail plea was turned down, was brought to a convent near here on Sunday where the assault took place.He was taken to the convent at Kuruvelengadu in a convoy of police vehicles from the Kottayam Police Club, where Mulakkal will be kept till Monday.
Woman arrested in Delhi for running child-selling racket
New Delhi, Sep. 23 (PTI): A 40-year-old woman has been arrested from south Delhi for allegedly running a racket selling children, police said on Sunday. The woman, Kavita, is suspected to be the kingpin of the racket selling babies to childless couples at prices ranging between INR 2 lakh and INR 5 lakh, they said. The accused was held three days ago and a court has sent her to police remand, police said, adding two babies have been recovered after her arrest. The racket came to the notice of Delhi Police last month, following which two police personnel met one of the accused posing as a childless couple. The accused was arrested and four children were rescued from him.
BJP leader kills himself in Shahdol district of MP
Shahdol (MP), Sep. 23 (PTI): Martand Tripathi (54), a BJP leader from Shahdol in Madhya Pradesh, allegedly committed suicide on Sunday, police said. Tripathi, a member of the state BJP’s working committee, allegedly shot himself in the head from his licensed rifle at his house in the Housing Board Colony here. The incident took place around 2 PM, said Deputy Inspector General of Police P S Uike.
