Get ‘Yogi haircut’ or face action: Meerut school manager
Meerut, April 28 (PTI): The manager of a CBSE-affiliated school, which has asked its students to get a Yogi Adityanath- like haircut, today said action will be taken against those who protest the orders. Some parents had yesterday protested outside the school against the orders that also asked the students to shun non- vegetarian food. Notwithstanding the protest, school manager Ranjeet Jain said those want to remain in the institution will have to follow the directives. Meanwhile, the local administration has asked the district inspector of schools to submit a report on the matter.
No question of taxing agriculture income: Panagariya
New Delhi, April 28 (PTI): NITI Aayog Vice-Chairman Arvind Panagariya today categorically stated that there is no question of taxing agriculture income at a time when the government is keen on doubling the income of farmers. On farm loan waiver, the NITI Aayog vice-chairman said, “States are empowered to waive farm loan... Besides their priorities, states are bound by the FRBM Act.” A controversy had erupted after Debroy at a press conference said the agricultural income should be taxed. However, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley later clarified that there was no such proposal and the Centre has no power to impose tax on agricultural income.
Jobs being provided on basis of merit only: Khattar
Kurukshetra, April 28 (PTI): In Haryana, jobs are being provided on the basis of merit only and the state government has taken steps to put an end to corruption, nepotism and regional bias, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar said today. Asking the youth to work for the progress of the state and the country and at the same time achieve personal success, Khattar said his government is preparing several schemes for their welfare. Several draft plans have been prepared for education, arts and skill development, the benefits of which would soon reach people, he said.
West Bengal jetty collapse toll rises to 13
Hooghly, April 28 (PTI): Seven more bodies were fished out from the Hooghly river today, taking the toll of Wednesday’s jetty collapse in Bhadreswar in Hooghly district to 13, police said.. Superintendent of Police Sukesh Jain said that personnel of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) found the seven bloated bodies, including that of a woman, floating on the river this morning. Six bodies were recovered till yesterday, while five persons were still missing. Meanwhile, the four arrested lease-holders of Telenipara jetty in Bhadreswar were remanded to seven days’ police custody.
IITs to have wellness centres to help students de-stress
Mumbai, April 28 (PTI): Concerned over the increasing number of “campus suicides”, the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) will now have wellness centres to help students deal with mental stress and a “non-academic” induction programme for freshers. A decision in this regard was taken at a meeting of the IIT council, the apex coordination body for 23 IITs across the country. During the meeting, chaired by Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar, the plan to increase female representation in IITs by introducing a supernumerary quota was also approved.
