The 24th meet (Wrestling) of the Northern Angami Sports Association Group ‘D’ commenced today at Seiyhama Local Ground.
A total of 56 wrestlers from Chiechama, Nachama, Tuophema, Botsa, Gariphema, Tsiemekhu Bawe, Tsiemekhu Basa, Seiyhama, Seiyha Phesa and Teichüma are taking part in the two-day event which will conclude on January 8.
The inaugural function was graced by Dr. Neiphrezo Kedistu, MLA & chairman Nagaland State Mineral Development Corporation (NSMDC) as the chief guest.In his address, the MLA urged the sportspersons to take part in sports activities with the spirit of professionalism with the aim to reach the top. Stating that sportspersons can earn wealth and fame through sports, he advised the players to partake with commitment and dedication so as to reach at the top.
He further advised the players not to be jack of all track, but rather told them to concentrate in those sports discipline which they are good and talented at. He observed that the drawback of many Naga sportspersons to excel at higher level is because ‘they fail to choose a particular sports discipline.”
Keditsu also challenged the sportspersons to partake in sports activities with total commitment, sincerity and dedication so as to reach the top.
Meanwhile, 12 wrestlers have made it to the individual round of the NASA-D wrestling meet, wherein the 12 wrestlers will fight for the ultimate title tomorrow.
The wrestlers who have made it to the individual round are Kevisetuo Seyie, Khriesilie-o Kense, Keduovilie Zumu, Kikruvilie Zumu (All from Tuophema village), Savilie Kisi, Khriezo Pielie, Kevisebei Mets and Thejao Kets (All from Gariphema village), Rüguotuolie Metha, Neipfhetuo Metha and Kevi Merü V. Rio (All from Gariphema) and Rükuosielie Metha (Seiyhama).
The winner of NASA-D wrestling championship will fetch a cash award of Rs 25,000, sponsored by Atu Zumvü, SDPO, Kohima, while the 1st runner-up will receive Rs. 20,000, sponsored by Seyiekhrielie Rio, Block Development Officer, Botsa.
The third position winner will receive a cash award of Rs, 15,000, sponsored by Kelevizo Kense, , while the fourth place winner will be given Rs. 10,000, sponsored by Avizo Mere Kesiye, deputy commandant, Border Security Force.
The four losing quarterfinalists will also be given Rs. 2,000 each, sponsored by Thekrupa Sogotsu, entrepreneur.
The NASA-D wrestling tournament will conclude on January 8 with Keneingusa Rio, additional superintendent of police (Wireless) as the guest of honour.
The 15 selected wrestlers will represent NASA-D at the forthcoming Northern Angami Sports Association wrestling meet, scheduled on January 22 and 23 at Kohimal Local Ground.
