
Dimapur, June 4 (EMN): The Senior Men’s Inter-District tournament kicked off on Saturday at Sovima Cricket Ground.
An update informed that the opening match was played between Kohima and Zunheboto. Kohima, having won the toss, elected to bat first and managed to put up a target of 162 runs losing six wickets in their allotted 20 overs.
Tapito Thupitor (50 runs), Seyievizo Zaputou (29 runs) and Hiketo (21 runs) were the major run contributors for Kohima. For Zunheboto, Aloto Zhimo, Hutoho Kiba and Heboto Shohe secured a wicket each.
Chasing the target, Zunheboto had a good start as they crossed the 100 run figure without losing a wicket but failed to materialise their lead as they fell short of 13 runs at the end of 20 overs. Hipito Assumi (82 runs) and Kihika Assumi (33 runs) were the highest run scorers for Kohima. For Kohima, Sepichem and Samuel Zaputou claimed a wicket each.
In the second match, Peren won the toss against Dimapur and elected to bat first. Wahid Ali scored 74 runs and the team managed to put up a total score of 113 runs all out in 20 overs. For Dimapur, Hopongkyu Sangtam took four wickets, Hem secured two wickets, while Nagaho and Akavi took a wicket each.
The Dimapur team chased down the target in 12 overs losing a wicket with Shamphri scoring 62 runs not out and Sedezhalie Rupreo scoring 29 runs. Dimapur won the match by nine wickets.
On June 5 (Sunday), Longleng will take on Phek at 9 am, while Zunheboto will take on Peren at 1 pm in the second match.
