KOHIMA, SEPTEMBER 1: Along with the rest of the country, the Life Insurance Corporation of India (LICI), one of the premier financial institutions in the country, celebrated its 60th anniversary today at LIC Kohima Branch Office. The celebration at Kohima was graced by Kuzholuzo (Azo) Nienu, MLA and former minister as the chief guest.
In his address, Nienu congratulated the LICI for coming thus far, while he also urged them to continue further with the same zeal and spirit to reach out to every nook and corner of the country, especially in Nagaland.
Nienu observed that Nagas are totally blind in banking system, particularly on investment and insurance policies. To this end, he encouraged the Nagas to learn more about banking procedures and be updated with the benefits that comes through banking investment.
He also requested the LICI to continue further in educating the masses, so that they learn more about insurance benefits.Stating that life is uncertain and that natural calamity or disaster might strike anytime and any moment, Nienu underlined the need for Nagas to be prepared by investing in life insurance benefits.
“Life is all about being secured and it comes through insurance policies,” he said adding that the best way to be prepared is to invest from now on.
Branch Manager of LICI, Kohima Branch, Shelphomran Khaling, had highlighted on the many achievements made by LICI during the last 60 years.
“Our 60 years journey since September 1, 1956, the company has seen great achievement towards providing financial and emotional security to the people of India. LIC is India’s premier financial institution in true spirit of serving the people and nation by mobilising people’s money for people’s welfare,” Khaling said.
With LICI attaining 60 glorious years, he also lauded the commitment and endeavour of each member of the LIC family and the predecessors who had contributed in making LIC as a symbol of trust and security in the minds of the people.
Mention be made here that LIC had been making pioneering strides since its inception by mobilising precious small savings of the people for the overall development of the country. The total funds invested was Rs 21,09.253 crores as on March 2016 and Rs 2,43,269 crores in social sector, Khaling informed.
As on September 1, 2016, it was learned that LICI has now 8 zonal offices along with 113 Divisional offices, 2048 branch offices, 1401 satellite offices, 1240 mini offices and foreign and international offices with a total of 1,14,773 employee strength and total agency force of 10,61,560 with its head office in Mumbai.
There are also 30 crores policy holders with a total life fund of Rs 20,57,625.38 crore set aside for policy holders payment, Khaling informed.
As part of its golden jubilee foundation, it was informed that LIC provided scholarship at the rate of 10,000 per annum to children from economically weaker section to pursue higher education till they complete graduation/ professional courses. In its effort to support NGOs under corporate social responsibility, LIC has also donated a school bus to Cherry Blossom School, Kohima, Khaling informed , adding it is giving great emphasis to children as they are the pillar(s) of the nation.
On the day, the LICI Kohima also awarded one of its agents namely, Noketozo Pusa, for his sincere efforts and commitment in reaching out to the masses with the benefits of investment.
